About JANEL FOO GLASSWORKS
Founded by: Janel Foo
Founded in: 2015
Janel Foo Glassworks creates stained glass planters, suncatchers, and tabletop decor. The company was founded by Janel Foo in 2015, and it was created out of her interest in jewelry design, which she developed during her time in the Jewelry Program at Pasadena City College. Working with those materials immediately appealed to her artistic sensibilities, and Janel continued to improve her skills in classes offered at a local glass shop. It was completing a commission for a friend’s wedding altar that gave her the confidence to dedicate herself completely to the craft.
Janel is attracted to the abstraction and geometry in modern stained glass. She creates all of the goods, made-to-order, in her in-home studio. She starts with sheets of glass of different colors and textures, then she cuts them into smaller pieces and arranges them into a design.
Janel believes it is a uniquely exciting time to be an artist and a craftsperson in LA. She finds there’s a large number of people newly interested in craft—creating it professionally, pursuing it as a hobby, or buying it for their homes. The attention and support she’s received for her work has been overwhelming. Being a maker in L.A. during this revival and being recognized by L.A. Original for being a part of it is invigorating to her.
